Following the previous report of anastomotic ring using rubber stopper technique, a new soluble ring, which is made of cat-gut, has been devised and successfully applied clinically to the esophageal anastomosis. Of 22 cases operated on with this procedure, no leakage, no stenosis, no reflux esophagitis was encountered. Although the study of this technique is still being continued by devising many kinds of ring and trying them clinically, this may be said to be a safe and certain procedure. Especially one of the most remarkable advantages is that an intranasal catheterization is not necessary in the postoperative period and the patient can start oral intake of water and fluid diet as soon as the day after the operation, and insufficiency of the anastomosis is prevented.
