Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy is the neurologic sequela of severe birth asphyxia. This review focuses upon the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, treatment, and potential preventability of this problem. The clinician must be aware of the underlying asphyxial conditions and anticipate the likely neurologic complications in order to improve the outcome of affected infants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
