An immediate evaluation involving the recording of time elapsing between birth and the onset of self sustained spontaneous breathing was compared with the recording of respiratory rate and cyanosis at regular periods for several hours following birth. It was helpful in evaluating prognosis especially in neonates with increased respiratory morbidity and mortality, in the premature and in those born by caeserian section. Neonates of respiratory group III needed more attention, especially the premature ones, as they have a higher risk of morbidity and mortality (9.1%). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
