The article discusses developments in discrete fracture network (DFN) site characterization, modeling and analysis to facilitate the use of in situ leach (ISL) or solution mining. ISL's potential role in supplementing conventional mining, targeting high-grade ores and prolonging the life of existing mines is described. The use of DFN modeling to understand fracture pathways in the country rock and orebody is addressed. DFN modeling's ability to determine permeable fractures is also considered. |
