Chapter 8 of the book "Directors and Designers" is presented. It explores the complex position of a citizen artist in relation to the theatre career of Russian avant-garde stage director Alexander Tairov by examining the dialogue between theatrical aesthetics and cultural assumptions. It also investigates the relationship between the theatre artist and the state which is based on the concept that theatre functions as a culturally- and socially-constructed product. |
