The author offers updates from the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME) as of February 2011. At the 2011 annual meeting of SME in Denver, Colorado, John Murphy will be named as the new president. Two initiatives were launched in 2010, including the creation of a monthly column in the "Mining Engineering" magazine and the initiation of a new category of Presidential Citations. In 2011, a new division will be added to SME named the International Marine Minerals Society (IMMS). |
