Abstrakt: The article presents update on the U.S. Commerce Department's composite index of foreign industrial production, including the potential growth in Japan's current account balance of payments surplus and increased value of the Japanese yen. U.S. automobile sales figures for April 1978 reveal a decline in imports and rise in domestic four-wheelers as firms offset the effects of the rising Japanese yen. Statistics show the annual rate of increase in wholesale prices of finished goods, and outlook shows the continued decline in unemployment rate for 1978.
