Abstrakt: The article reports on the East and Central African literary world in 2009. It discusses two categories that dominated the theme of the year's publications including the horrors, traumas, and violence across the region, and reflections on personal experiences and monumentalisation of lives through the auto/biographical medium. Cited works include Michela Wrong's "Its Our Turn to Eat: The Story of a Kenyan Whistle-Blower," Jade del Cameron's "Treasure of the Golden Cheetah," and Njenga Karume's "Beyond Expectations: From Charcoal to Gold."
