The article features Mike LayPort, the fastest roller skater in the U.S. He is one of the members of the first U.S. team to compete at a world speed-skating tournament. LayPort attributes his excessive weight to ice cream and soda pops. He successfully defended his five-mile title and won the senior men's championship at the world speed skating championships in Mar del Plata, Argentina in December 1969. |
