Abstrakt: The concept of stabilizing the reactive end-groups in conventional polyimides has been investigated in a novel system. The polyimide investigated was synthesized from 4, 4′-hexafluoroisopropylidenebis (phthalic anhydride) (6F) and 2, 2′-bis[4-(4-aminophenoxyphenyl)] hexafluoro-propane (4-BDAF). The reactive anhydride end-capped and amine end-capped polyimides were imidized and further reacted with several end-capping agents consisting of n-hexylamine, aniline, m-anisidine, phthalic anhydride and p-phenoxyphthalic anhydride to yield non-reactive end-capped polyimides. A comparison of the properties such as inherent viscosity, molecular weight, glass transition temperature, thermal stability, tensile, fracture toughness and complex viscosity of these non-reactive end-capped polyimides with the reactive end-capped polyimides will be presented.
