The influence of process variables on the performance of a textile vacuum slot extractor is examined using a factorial plan of experiments and statistical analysis of the results. The major factors influencing the water content of a 50/50 cotton /polyester fabric after vacuum extraction are its initial water content, the vacuum level, and the viscosity of the liquid removed. The effects of fabric speed and slot width are less important. A relationship between the final water content of the fabric and the op erational variables is derived, including the effects of interactions between some vari ables. The agreement between experimental and predicted water contents for inter mediate values of process variables confirms the absence of pronounced curvature of the model. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER] |
