Abstrakt: Chapter 12 of the book "Assessing Science Learning: Perspective From Research and Practice," edited by Janet Coffey, Rowena Douglas and Carole Stearns is presented. It explores the use of assessment in probing student thinking which is also associated to the science learning goals and standards. It highlights the criteria used in identifying the targeted ideas of the assessment items test, the precautions in ensuring the accurateness of the scheme and the utilization of the student feedbacks.
