The article presents a response to the comments of Doctor Ron Berghmans regarding their study. The authors claim that their report on the characteristics of participants in phase 1 studies in the U.S. demonstrated that phase 1 participants as a group do not fit into groups considered as vulnerable based on sociodemographic and health-related characteristics. In addition, they argue that the findings do not prelude the possibility that individual phase 1 participants may be conventionally vulnerable, nor the possibility that the subjects as a group are vulnerable in some other way. |
