The article offers information on the wooden shuttles created by Anastasius Nicolaides, the author's grandfather, for his wife Charlotte Sedwick Nicolaides. Based on the article, the lacemaking technique of tatting started in the sixteenth century, but it was in the nineteenth century that the technique peaked. The author claims that the shuttles created by her grandfather ticked rhythmically in a soothing tempo. The shuttles' design features two-post form and the wood-burned initials AN. |
