The article focuses on the importance of disquisitions in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), that is used by family therapists in couples therapy. It states that the aim of EFT is to identify, explore and expand the emotional responses within a couple, to develop their interpersonal interactions. The therapist uses disquisition in therapy by narrating a third person fantasy story to the clients, which involves both the partners in giving responses in a universal context. A clinical example is presented, wherein the disquisition focused on the demanding nature of the husband. It suggests that disquisitions in EFT should keep in mind the educational level of the clients and focus their attachment issues. |
