Pharmacy educators have long been interested in identifying the factors that may influence pharmacy student academic performance. A study was conducted at Howard University to investigate variables influencing the success of minority pharmacy students. A total of 293 students with evaluable data were analyzed. Logistic regression models were also performed to assess good academic standing and the factors responsible for students' failing a course. Significant predictors of a multiple regression analysis were GPA, PCAT chemistry, age, previous degree, and PCAT quantitative. These results suggest that the predictors of academic success for minority students are similar to predictors noted for nonminority students. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER] |
