This supplement deals with the definition and classification of cerebral palsy (CP). The disease was predominantly studied in relation to pathology and aetiology of the impairment. But it was during the 19th century that the discussion on the definition of CP was first recorded in medical literature. A lecture of English orthopaedic surgeon William Little in 1843 has elucidated the seminal work describing CP. In the 1940s and 1950s, Myer Perlstein, an American neurologist, recounted methods for classifying CP children. |
