The article talks about the return of the propfan engine concept in the aviation industry. Pratt & Whitney is leading the pack in terms of full-scale demonstrators, but its competitors believe the market will ultimately demand better improvements than the geared turbofan can deliver. CFM is building on its massive CFM56 experience base to develop a two-part strategy for the next-generation engine. It is stated that tests of the open rotor concept and its technology are spaced out over an eight-year period. |
