Abstrakt: The article evaluates the effect of self-selected distracters on pain, fear and distress in 50 children with cancer with port access or venipuncture. Using an intervention-comparison group design, participants were randomized to receive standard care or distraction plus standard care. Some of the self-selected distracters used include virtual reality glasses, handheld video games and music table. The author concluded that distraction has the potential to reduce fear and distress.
