The article presents an analysis of what constitutes a womanist ontology. It defines a womanist self as a social self, a self formed in the crucible of being a black person living in a racist society and shaped by a positive experience of community. It highlights the concept of mothering for African American women. It explores the importance of survival and wholeness to the womanist social self. |
