The article discusses issues concerning clinical applications of pro re nata (p.r.n.) or as required medications in psychiatric inpatient settings. Factors responsible for evening distribution of p.r.n. medications may include short staffing and increased admissions. Assessment factors that help psychiatric nurses make the best decision about whether to administer a p.r.n. medication are given. Common p.r.n. medications are listed. |
