Abstrakt: The article describes the field testing of a program that encourages elementary school students and their parents to study science subjects in their homes. The main component of the program is the take-home science kits that contained activities and equipment designed for adults and children. These kits are field tested at an elementary school in a midwestern city. Complete pre- and posttest parent responses are gathered from 56 parent of grade one students and 44 parent of grade three students. The Likert-type and short-answer items are also administered. Analyses of the data showed that the program is viewed positively by students and their parents. Also, gender and grade-level differences in the students are present and that the program is more effective for girls.
