Abstrakt: This article focuses on diseases of the circulatory system as the major cause of illness, disability and death in Canada. More than 309,000 people were hospitalized in 2001/02 because of diseases of the circulatory system. The number of heart attack patients actually rose from about 49,000 in 1994/95 to more than 55,000 in 2001/02. While the mortality rates for heart attack and stroke dropped steadily, the rate for congestive heart disease was relatively stable.
