Abstract A method of optimizing the characteristic space, which enables the volume of information flows obtained from the object of an expert examination (an internal combustion engine) and from the processed expert measurement system of the engine to be minimized, while ensuring the required accuracy and reliability of the classification of the state of the system, is considered.
