The majority of elderly experience heightened health-related concerns and disability apprehensions, particularly after entering their sixty plus. Self-rated health (SRH) has emerged as a significant psychological indicator of longevity. Health-related self-perception, acting as a moderating variable, strongly influences physical wellbeing, which subsequently contributes to mental wellbeing. In this context, data on self-rated health, objective health, life satisfaction and psychological wellbeing were drawn from a 3-year prospective study involving three cohort groups (ages 50-59, 60-69, and 70-79). Study was conducted on 480 middle aged and elderly men and women across three consecutive years. No significant differences in age groups, gender groups, and education levels were observed across the three consecutive years with regard to Self-Rated Health, except at Time 1, where a significant difference was found between men and women. Study also revealed significant association between self-rated health, objective health and significant association between life satisfaction and psychological wellbeing. Findings were discussed and implications were drawn. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
