Researchers from Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center in China conducted a study on the physical and dosimetric properties of silicone rubber bolus for head photon-beam radiotherapy. The study compared silicone rubber bolus with gel and thermoset boluses, finding that the silicone rubber bolus exhibited higher hardness post-irradiation and demonstrated comparable dosimetric characteristics to other commercial boluses. The researchers concluded that silicone rubber bolus is a feasible and stable material for head photon-beam radiotherapy, providing notable protection for organs at risk. The study was funded by various organizations and published in the journal Technology in Cancer Research & Treatment. [Extracted from the article] |
