Abstrakt: The escalating threat of antibiotic resistance has led to an increased interest in plant-based antimicrobials as alternative therapeutic agents. Boerhavia diffusa L., commonly known as Punarnava is a medicinal plant extensively utilized in conventional Ayurvedic medication because of its broad spectrum of biological activities, like anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective and diuretic activities. Despite its widespread use, there is a need for scientific validation of its antibacterial properties, particularly its root extract. This study undertakes a comprehensive phytochemical analysis of Boerhavia diffusa root and evaluates its in-vitro antibacterial activity against a selection of pathogenic bacteria. The results reveal that Boerhavia diffusa root contains multiple bioactive compounds with significant antibacterial activity, thereby supporting its traditional use and suggesting its capacity to provide new antibacterial drugs.
