A study protocol conducted by King's College London aims to investigate the effects of administering psilocybin, a psychedelic compound, to individuals with functional neurological disorder (FND). The research seeks to understand the potential mechanisms underlying FND by analyzing changes in brain networks, such as the default mode network (DMN), through functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). The study will also assess the safety and feasibility of using psychedelics alongside psychological support in this patient population. Financial support for the research was provided by the Wellcome Trust. [Extracted from the article] |
