A recent study conducted at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic, aimed to develop a methodology for assessing lumbar paraspinal muscle (LPM) morphology using advanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methods. The study found that the morphological parameters of the LPM, such as fat fraction (FF), total muscle volume (TMV), and functional muscle volume (FMV), are significantly influenced by physiological factors such as age, weight, and sex. The researchers developed equations to predict these morphological parameters based on anthropometric parameters, age, and sex. The study's findings could improve our understanding of diseases involving LPM, such as low back pain and certain neuromuscular diseases. [Extracted from the article] |
