Abstrakt: Sen. Ron Wyden, chair of the Senate Finance Committee, has demanded records from a Georgia hospital to determine if it violated federal law when it failed to save Amber Thurman, who died after waiting 20 hours for emergency care under the state's abortion ban. The hospital may have violated the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA), which requires hospitals to provide emergency care or transfer patients to a hospital that can. Wyden has also sent letters to hospitals in other states where women have been turned away or experienced delayed care. The hospitals' responses could lead to proposed legislation or executive actions to strengthen compliance. [Extracted from the article]
