A recent case-control study conducted in Chennai, India examined the relationship between gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and dental caries among individuals aged 18-35 years. The study included 350 participants divided into GERD and non-GERD groups, and dental caries was assessed using the DMFT index. The findings revealed a significant association between GERD and higher DMFT scores, indicating that GERD patients had more decayed, missing, and total teeth compared to non-GERD patients. The study highlights the importance of integrated dental and medical care for GERD patients, with an emphasis on weight management to alleviate GERD symptoms. [Extracted from the article] |
