A report from the University of Oslo discusses the identification of treatment elements for adolescents with callous unemotional (CU) traits. CU adolescents are at risk for negative outcomes such as incarceration, suicide, and psychopathy, but it is unclear which treatments are effective for this group. The review found that significant decreases in CU traits were only demonstrated in a minority of studies, and the most utilized practice elements included setting treatment goals, practicing interpersonal/communication skills, and teaching parents skills and strategies. The research concludes that further exploration is needed due to limited empirical evidence. [Extracted from the article] |
