Abstrakt: A recent study conducted by researchers at Tianjin Medical University in China explored the effects of genetic-specific and age-specific prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening for prostate cancer (PCa). The study found that risk-adapted screening strategies that integrate genetic-specific and age-specific cut-off values of PSA are more effective than traditional PSA screening. The researchers determined optimal cut-off values for PSA based on polygenic risk scores (PRS) and age, and compared the accuracy, detection rates of high-grade PCa, and false positive rates of the different screening strategies. The recommended risk-adapted screening strategy reduced missed PCa cases by 12.8% while maintaining high specificity. [Extracted from the article]
