Abstrakt: A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Florida-Jacksonville has provided important insights into the management of patients with overlapping thyroid and renal disease. The study found that patients with euthyroidism and chronic kidney disease (CKD) may have abnormal thyroid hormone levels. Untreated subclinical and primary hypothyroidism in CKD patients can lead to reversible progression of renal failure, while untreated hyperthyroidism can increase the glomerular filtration rate. The study also highlighted the need for further research on optimal dosing and timing of radioiodine therapy for patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD) and thyroid cancer.
