Discovering a new plasticizer is important to avoid void formation in composite solid propellant. This work aims to investigate effect of natural oils in modifying flow properties of HTPB, compared to petroleum-based plasticizers. In a range of low shear rates, through viscosity measurements at 60 °C, and room temperature, shear stress, shear modulus, viscosity, and flow index were analyzed. The samples were HTPB, dioctyl adipate, dioctyl terephthalate, tris (2-ethylhexyl) trimellitate, palm oil and soybean oil. The results show that at 60 °C, which is also the temperature when CSP slurry mixed, natural oils decrease shear stress better than DOA, DOTP, and TOTM. For shear modulus and viscosity of HTPB, effects of soybean oil are similar to DOA. For flow index of HTPB, soybean oil and DOA decrease the value. Supported by its value of Hansen Solubility Parameter, soybean oil is more promised to replace DOA in manufacturing CSP. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
