A study conducted at Bharti Vidyapeeth Deemed University Medical College aimed to understand the impact of dietary habits on the accumulation of lipofuscin, a pigment associated with retinal aging. The researchers found that healthy adults who consumed a non-vegetarian diet had higher levels of lipofuscin deposition in the macula compared to vegetarians. The study also found that macular autofluorescence values increased significantly with age. The findings suggest that a vegetarian diet may have protective benefits and reduce the risk of developing age-related eye diseases. [Extracted from the article] |
