Political assassinations have been a common occurrence throughout history, not just in the United States. While the US has a long history of assassinations, including Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr., assassinations are relatively common outside the US as well. Assassinations are the murder of a prominent political figure and are often seen as acts of unofficial violence committed by those outside the structures of the state. However, assassinations rarely bring about the radical changes desired by the killer. State-sanctioned extrajudicial killings are also on the rise. Overall, assassinations are a macabre part of the political landscape, but they do not lead to widespread change. [Extracted from the article] |
