Abstrakt: A recent study conducted by researchers at Jiangnan University in Wuxi, China, focused on the detection of free cancer cells (FCCs) in the peritoneal cavity, which is associated with poor prognosis in patients with gastric cancer (GC). The study utilized a new peritoneal lavage fluid cytology examination method to detect FCCs and explore its clinical significance in diagnosing occult peritoneal metastasis (OPM) and prognosis. The researchers found that the combination of the isolation by size of epithelial tumor cells (ISET) platform and immunofluorescence-fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) method was more effective in detecting FCCs compared to light microscopy. The study concluded that this potential detection method could lead to early intervention and improved patient survival. [Extracted from the article]
