Abstrakt: A study conducted by the Indiana University School of Medicine compared two surgical approaches for targeted muscle reinnervation (TMR) in above-the-knee amputation (AKA) patients. TMR is used to prevent or treat neuromas in amputees. The study found that performing TMR through the wound following AKA requires less operative time compared to a posterior approach. However, the posterior approach allows for more TMR coaptations since recipient motor nerves are not consistently found near the stump. This research provides valuable insights for surgical decision-making in AKA patients. [Extracted from the article]
