Abstrakt: The Earth Negotiations Bulletin provides a summary of the 19th session of the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF19) held on May 6, 2024. The session focused on combating forest fires, developing a Model Forest Act, and valuing forest ecosystems. Delegates began negotiations on a draft declaration for the High-level Segment and a draft omnibus resolution on the effectiveness of the International Arrangement on Forests. The session emphasized the importance of addressing global forest goals and strengthening the UNFF Secretariat. Various countries shared their forest management and conservation efforts, and negotiations between the US and the CPF regarding temperate forests were discussed. The US expressed concerns about certification standards and called for an assessment of the UNFF's mandate and resources before allocating new staffing resources. Negotiations often run over schedule and may require longer hours for difficult discussions. [Extracted from the article]
