A study conducted by researchers from Massachusetts General Hospital examined the mental health needs and risk factors associated with service utilization among Latinx high school students in two cities in the United States. The study found that most Latinx youths reported symptoms of anxiety, trauma, or depression above the clinical range, but these clinical needs did not predict service utilization. Instead, socioeconomic factors such as economic hardship and maternal nativity from South America were associated with higher service utilization. The study highlights the need for equitable access to mental health services for older, low-income Latinx youth, particularly those from Central America, the Caribbean, and Mexico.
