A recent study conducted at the University of Washington examined the use of dexamethasone in the management of malignant small bowel obstruction (mSBO). The study found that dexamethasone was used in approximately 1 in 4 eligible mSBO admissions, with significant variability in its use between different medical centers. The research suggested that there may be an association between dexamethasone use and lower rates of nonelective surgery, indicating a potential opportunity for quality improvement. These findings highlight the importance of considering dexamethasone as a treatment option for mSBO patients. [Extracted from the article] |
