Abstrakt: Objective: To evaluate the preventive effect and safety of Chinese medicinal application at KI1 (Yongquan) acupoint on intermittent migraine. Methods: A double-blind randomized controlled clinical study was designed. Patients were randomly divided into the treatment group and control group with 29 cases in each group. Patients in the treatment group (n = 29) received the treatment of Chinese medicinal application at KI1 (Yongquan) acupoint for 4 weeks. Patients in the control group (n = 29) received placebo for 4 weeks. Both groups were followed up for 4 weeks after drug withdrawal. The frequency of headache attack, headache duration, severity of headache and Patient-reported Outcome Rating Scale (PRO Scale) score of migraine were compared between the two groups. Safety indicators were adverse events. Results: In addition to the number of analgesics used, the frequency of headache attack, headache duration and severity of headache in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group after treatment, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Differences in decrease of the frequency of headache attack and headache duration between the two groups did not persist into the follow-up period (P > 0.05). After treatment and during the follow-up period, the total score of migraine PRO scale in the treatment group was significantly lower than that in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). Moreover, scores of the 4 evaluation dimensions all decreased to varying degrees. No adverse reactions were reported during the study period. Conclusion: The Chinese medicinal application at KI1 (Yongquan) acupoint used in this study can prevent migraine. It can reduce the frequency of migraine attack, reduce the total duration of attack and decrease the severity of headache. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
