A recent study conducted by researchers from Guizhou Provincial People's Hospital in China explored the relationship between basal metabolic rate (BMR) and chronic kidney disease (CKD). Using genetic data from genome-wide association studies, the researchers found that genetically predicted high BMR was associated with impaired kidney function, while genetically predicted decreased estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was associated with higher BMR. The study suggests a bidirectional causal relationship between BMR and kidney function. These findings contribute to our understanding of the complex relationship between metabolism and kidney health. [Extracted from the article] |
