A recent report from Sundsvall Hospital discusses the presence of Chromobacterium, a genus of bacteria found in soil and water in tropical and subtropical regions, as a potential infectious agent in immunocompetent patients. The report presents a clinical case of a 79-year-old man in Sweden who developed a soft-tissue infection and septicemia caused by a strain of Chromobacterium species. The patient was successfully treated with clindamycin and ciprofloxacin. This case highlights the existence of a novel species within the Chromobacterium genus and emphasizes the importance of considering Chromobacterium as a potential pathogen in certain clinical scenarios.
