A new study conducted in Maharashtra, India, evaluated different doses of dexmedetomidine (DEX) for awake fibreoptic nasotracheal intubation (AFONI) in patients undergoing oromaxillofacial and oral malignancy surgeries. The study compared three doses of DEX and found that all three doses resulted in comparable airway obstruction scores, providing favorable conditions for AFONI. The primary outcome measure was the airway obstruction score, and secondary outcome measures included intubation scores and a 5-point fibreoptic intubation comfort score. The study concluded that DEX, in combination with topical spray and airway block, was effective in securing the airway during AFONI. [Extracted from the article] |
