The purpose of this work is to study the possibilities of long-term energy storage in the local energy system to compensate the volatility of consumption and renewable energy sources. Such storage will increase the efficiency of solar and wind energy, balancing generation and consumption at different times of the year. As a means of long-term energy storage, a complex of obtaining hydrogen by electrolysis and its subsequent use in fuel cells for repeated conversion into electrical energy is considered. As auxiliary means of balancing in the local power system, traditional means are used - battery and diesel generator. The subject of the research is energy system efficiency indicators (reliability indices) and volumes of hydrogen production and consumption during the year. The mathematical tools of random functions is applied, when the current values of electricity generation and consumption are modeled by stochastic processes. The obtained results make it possible to estimate the power needs of various components of the energy system and the capacity of energy storage systems, as well as the level of unproductive energy losses and restrictions on the level of consumption. Simulation modeling with a sequential selection of possible values of the power system parameters and an assessment of the sensitivity of the results to individual components was used as a means of optimizing. The statistical stability of the obtained results is provided by a large number of random processes modeling. The power ratio of wind and solar power plants, the capacity of the energy storage system, which ensure a certain level of reliability of energy supply, are proposed. Under certain conditions it is possible to fully use all the generated energy throughout the year, combining periods of increased generation and consumption in different seasons with the help of hydrogen as an intermediate energy carrier.
