This document summarizes a study conducted in Eastern India that examined the prevalence of insulin resistance (IR) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and the impact of treatment with disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) on IR. The study found that RA patients are at a higher risk of IR and dyslipidemia, but early diagnosis and treatment of RA can reverse IR. The study also emphasizes the link between chronic inflammation and IR. However, there was no significant correlation between IR and disease activity before and after treatment. The document suggests routine lipid screening and evaluation of IR in RA patients to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. [Extracted from the article] |
