Abstrakt: This article discusses a study conducted at a tertiary care hospital in eastern Morocco to identify predictive factors for the presence of large esophageal varices in cirrhotic patients. The study included 100 cirrhotic patients, with the most common etiologies being cryptogenic cirrhosis and viral hepatitis C. The results showed that a platelet count of less than 100,000/mm3 was the only independent predictor of high-risk varices. The study confirms findings from previous research and suggests that platelet count can be used as a noninvasive approach to predict the presence of large varices. [Extracted from the article]
