This article, published in the journal Endoscopy, describes a case study of a 69-year-old female patient who underwent an upper GI endoscopy and was found to have a 50 mm gastric GIST (gastrointestinal stromal tumor). The tumor was located in the submucosal layer and had ulceration. The authors attempted a procedure called Submucosal Tunnelling Endoscopic Resection (STER), but due to the ulceration, they were unable to complete it. During the procedure, they discovered that the tumor had invaded the muscularis propria layer, resulting in a full-thickness defect in the gastric wall. The authors successfully closed the defect using an omental patch and through the scope endoscopic clips. The patient did not require any additional treatment and had negative follow-up results after 6 months. [Extracted from the article] |
